San Blas Islands : Kuna Village Paradise
The San Blas Islands of Panama are an archipelago of approximately 360 islands (49 of which are inhabited) and cays that lie off the north coast of the Isthmus of Panama, east of the Panama Canal. A part of the district Guna Yala along the Caribbean coast of Panama, they are home to the indigenous Kuna people.
San Blas and its surrounding area have become a haven for ecotourism because of its pristine environs. The region is also popular for sailing, as it is known for its tranquil beauty and lack of hurricanes. Notable locations in the Archipelago are the main capital El Porvenir, the densely crowded island village of Carti Sugtupu, and the two cays, Cayos Limones, and Cayos Holandeses, both renowned for their clear waters.
The islands could be rendered uninhabitable by sea level rise in the late 21st century.

An Excerpt from the Book
“In Simon’s mind, he hoped that the romantic sailboat jaunt through the Caribbean would be enough to convince her to stay with him. How could it not?
And as they climbed aboard the boat, grinning ear to ear and preparing for a relaxing five-day romantic voyage to Colombia, neither of them nor any of the other passengers boarding the ship, noticed the growing cluster of dark storm clouds brewing far out to sea.”
From The Author
“Tales of the sailing trips from Portobelo, Panama to Cartagena, Colombia are as varied as one could imagine. For some, it is the idyllic San Blas island hopping dream getaway, while for others… not so much.
I arrived in Portobelo years ago, with the full intention of hopping a sailboat to Cartagena to continue my journey south. Spending several days in the small village, awaiting the next departure, I kayaked, I slept without electricity, I was ravaged by mosquitoes and I heard a number of tales that sent shivers down my spine. I’m not one to chicken out based on other people’s experiences, but let’s just say my flight to Cartagena was quick, clean and delightful.
As soon as I arrived, of course, I met a group of people who had just had the most incredible time sailing through the San Blas Islands from Portobelo, and relished telling me about all I’d missed. C’est la vie.”
